Dr. Liya Wang has a broad background in radiology, magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging, with specific training and expertise in key research areas for this application. She was originally trained in medicine with emphasis on medical imaging. Her post-doctoral research included nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and imaging (MRI) studying biological problems, functional MRI of neuron degeneration diseases as well as brain tumor. Her current research is focused on developing and utilizing imaging technologies, especially magnetic resonance methods to address biological questions and clinical applications.

Dr. Wang's areas of work include: 1). Developing novel receptor targeted MRI contrast agents for MRI-based molecular and cellular imaging; 2). Developing clinical applications of functional and physiological MRI methods for cancer detection and interventional treatment, and 3). Developing nanomaterial and nanotechnology for medical applications, such as image-guided drug delivery. She is the co-investigator of two NIH-funded projects, including a research project on an R21 project developing NMR and MRS based methods for profiling metabolites in Alzheimer’s disease and the Emory Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (P50 AG025688)
